The twentieth century has been marked by migratory movements, many of which have exeted a destabilizing impact on migrant subjects. As a result, their feelings of belonging to their original culture and their perception of home have been affected. Postcolonial and cultural studies allow us to approach the issue of the config uration of identity at the crossroads of cultures and geographical borders. In the light of concepts such as 'roots', 'unhomeliness' and 'racial discrimination, we analyze the representation of the diasporic subject in the novel Fruit of the Lemon (1999), by British writer Andrea Lev y. This work explores the effect of spatial mobility on the identity of Faith Jackson, the main character in the novel, by considering her experiences as the daughter of Jamaican immigrants in England, her feelings of unhomeliness and the process of identity reconstruction through the return to her roots.
