1985: Argentina, potencia mundial : desarrollismo y proyecciones demográficas en la prensa del Sesquicentenario

Abstract

Con este trabajo pretendemos aportar algunas pistas que inauguren el tránsito hacia una historia de las estadísticas en la sociedad civil. Si bien el estudio de las estadísticas oficiales ha ampliado nuestro conocimiento del pasado, sus efectos no dejan verse en espacios que funcionan a cierta distancia del Estado. De ahí la importancia de examinar el uso de proyecciones demográficas en la prensa del 'Sesquicentenario de la Revolución de Mayo'. Con ese propósito hemos dividido el texto en tres secciones. En una primera parte, efectuaremos un recuento de los avances más relevantes en la historia de la estadística, mencionando sus temáticas comunes, enfoques teóricometodológicos utilizados y algunas de sus deudas pendientes. En un segundo apartado, confeccionaremos una radiografía de la 'Argentina Desarrollista', mostrando los conflictos que la estructuraban. Finalmente, analizaremos la producción estadística publicada por Clarín en 1960, examinando los supuestos que la vertebraba y los efectos simbólicos que pretendía generar.

With this work we expect to provide some clues to inaugurate the traffic towards a history of statistics in the civil society. Though the study of the official statistics has extended our knowledge of the past, its effects are not so evident in spaces that work at certain distance from the state. Hence the importance of examining the use of demographic projections in the press of '150th May's Revolution anniversary'. With this intention, we have divided the text into three sections. In the first part, we will provide an inventory of the advances of Statistics'history, mentioning its problems, theoretical approaches and pending matters. In the second paragraph, we will make a picture of the 'Argentina desarrollista', showing the conflicts that were shaping it. Finally, we will analyze the statistical production published by 'Clarín' in 1960, examining its suppositions and the symbolic effects that it was trying to generate.
