(Romero 1998). The present work attempts a historical approach to the study of the concepts of nation and nationalism from the standpoint of political geography. Also different views are analysed and diverse authors cited whose renewed stances enrich the vision of the modern State-Nation. Nation appears as given and pre-existent, though in fact it is a social construction that does not come before history but is rather a continuous process that allows men to imagine other forms of coexistence. Identity is reconstructed permanently, through preservation and change, and it may be noticed that traditional symbols can end up being less identifying than certain daily-life situations or manifestations that arouse greater feelings. Today geographers examine the process of its constitution, pointing out that it is the product of the action of human societies that, at some point in their - relatively recent, on the whole - evolution, decided to adopt that national identity and associate it with the State. It would be extremely helpful that the topics shared by the Latin American nations were emphasized in the curricular designs and texts "with the objective of decentering the sight and admitting the other".
