The Diario de Viaje of Luis de la Cruz, written in 1806, provides a valuable record of speeches, talks and comments about the natives that inhabited La Pampa's territory. De La Cruz travels all the way from Chile to Buenos Aires. He plans a commercial road and, with the pehuenches company, goes down to the 'Mamilmapu' territory, not dominated yet. The indigenous are described as wild but humanitarian and affectionate with the captives. At the same time, the magnificence of their speeches, their eloquence, their ceremonious rhetoric, and their poetic use of the language can be appreciated in his writings. De la Cruz writes and compares his own language with that of the natives. He transcribes himself, quotes his own words, and represents them. It is a political, persuasive, parliamentary speech proper of his duty as representative of the king and Chilean authorities. Different studies about this work consider it a text able to start a La Pampa's representation, a sketch of its identities. And it seems that nowadays, it is at the convergence of the native's language and the Spanish writing where we can place one of the lines that found the study field of the region's literature.
