The losses he post-harvests of the culture of maize caused by the storage, they possess magnitudes of such an importance that both the producer and the gatherer and the manufacturer, seek to minimize so much in quality, since in quantity. In the present work there was analyzed the quality loss of the grains associated with the presence of insects. The samples were taken of two silos, one treated with acaricide and insecticide, and different without chemical treatment (witness). For one year there were gathered 10 monthly samples of every silo and in laboratory there was realized the count, the recognition of the species and analysis of the commercial quality of the grain. Though insects were not situated during the first six months of storage in normal conditions in any of the treatments, in the seventh month, there was a strong advance and population growth of the species of insects Sitophilus oryzae L. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Tribolium spp. (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) and Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) (Coleoptera: Silvanidae) in the silo without treating. It was possible to determine, that the most important population was that of Sitophilus oryzae, and that these did not appear until January the untreated silage, while in the silo tried not find a significant number of individuals of any species. As for commercial quality, it was observed that with increasing storage time, commercial quality declined untreated silo (bad and broken grains) significantly from January.
