The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of a liquid phosphorous fertilizer formulation versus a solid one under two moisture conditions in Calcareous Plain soils (Province of La Pampa). Trials were carried out in pots with top-slope, mid-slope and foot-slope soil from a site in Calcareous Plain, using wheat as a crop. Two phosphorous sources were used, triple calcium superphosphate (STP, granulated) and polyphosphate (PL, liquid) and a control (T); and two moisture conditions: 80% field capacity (H1) and moisture restriction (H2). In H1, no differences were observed in dry matter (DM) between SPT and PL and in top-slope, no P deficiency was found in the fertilized treatments, while plants in T were deficient. In H2, PL generated more DM than SPT in top-slope and mid-slope, and this did not differ from T. In top-slope, T and SPT showed a marked deficiency of P, being significantly lower in PL, which indicates that P- diffusion of the SPT granule was limited. Using PL would improve the efficiency of fertilizer use compared to granulated sources in calcareous soils of semi-arid environments.
