In La Pampa, oil exploitation and the increase in the density of oil wells that have gradually been located on the banks of the Colorado River, it has become a potentially hazardous activity for human health as well as for the extinction of plant and animal species. The spill of hydrocarbon in the soil causes a significant negative effect on the environment by altering the properties of said soil. The study area is part of the area 25 de Mayo- Medanito S.E. The objective of this work was to determine the capacity of germination, survival and biomass generation in different stages of growth of grasses in contaminated substrates with different levels of hydrocarbons. The study was carried out by means of three tests, laboratory germination, transplant and seedling growth, and bush transplantation and aerial biomass production, with two treatments each, with and without hydrocarbon. The species used were: Elymus erianthus, Jarava neaei, Aristida niederleinii, Nassella trichotoma, Jarava ichu, Amelichloa brachychaeta and Thinopyrum ponticum. The species that showed the best behavior were E. erianthus, which recorded a 78% germination capacity with respect to its control; while A. niederleinii and E. erianthus had a 60% survival of the seedlings in the samples with hydrocarbon. The highest production of dry matter was given by the bushes of A. brachychaeta and T. ponticum in both samples with and without hydrocarbon. This study is important to be able to select grasses capable of tolerating concentrations of hydrocarbon pollutants and thus revegeting disturbed areas.
