The calden semiarid forest, in the espinal region of central Argentina is one of the most severely affected landscapes. Along with the reduction of native forest, legal and illegal hunting of wildlife, mostly of carnivore species, results in the removal of an unknown number of individuals of these species each year. Mainly, hunting, is affecting puma populations. The goal of the project is to evaluate wild cats populations status in the caldén semiarid forest, considering aspects of species 'trophic and spatial ecology at different spatial scales and under different management or conservation scenarios. This project uses different methodologies: 1) the trophic ecology or diet is studied through the analysis of scats collected, and 2) spatial ecology of wild cats is determined by the combination of camera trapping (trap-cameras) to capture-recapture models (abundance estimate) and spatial distribution models through generalised additive models Gams)
