The present work was made in Maraco department (La Pampa), Argentine. Due to the geographical situation, at the south of the province, different degree of iodine deficiency are registered what causes a shock, in the cattle production. They objective was to determine if in the region/zone under consideration there was iodine deficiency, that could influence on milk production negatively. To perform this task :the hormones T3 and T4 were dosed in serum by means of the radioinmunoassay technique and captation of radio active iodine by thyroid was also measured . The results showed that the animals under observation possessed a non significative difference in the concentration of the hormone T3 (p 0,05) in comparison with bibliographic facts considered normal. What shows that the hormone values were normal, while the difference found for the values of T4 ( P 0,05) was significant, showing that this hormone was in deficit. Analyzing the radio active iodine captation, it was proved that the field number seven, where the animals received supplement with iodine the concentration of T3 and T4 hormone didn't have significative differences (p 0,05) and they were animals which showed a smaller iodine captation. Despite the absence of clinic goiter, these animal's showed a sub clinic iodine deficiency which would negatively affect the milk production, except the animals of field number seven where the hormone concentration was within normal values.During the last 40 years thorough investigations have been performed, which have cleared up the iodine needs in all domestic species.
