Abstract: Caldén forests (Prosopis caldenia) in the province of La Pampa show significant signs of degradation due, among other factors, to over-exploitation, forest fires and logging without planning. This situation is reflected in a shrub process that manifests itself in excessive development of the middle stratum of the forest composed of shrub species proper and sprouts of caldén. In this context, the implementation of management plans and the implementation of interventions within the framework of National Law 26331 and Provincial Law 2624, aims to protect and rehabilitate these ecosystems productively. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of manual selective thinning (RSM) on the natural grassland of the native forest, in the Bajo Verde Establishment, Faculty of Agronomy (UNLPam). For this, floristic census of the herbaceous vegetation was carried out and samples of the soil seed bank (BSS) were taken in the RSM and in the control. ANOVA was applied to determine if there were significant differences between treatments. Poa ligularis showed a higher density and coverage of plants in autumn for the RSM in relation to the control (p <0.05). In addition, a higher density of forage and non-forage seeds was observed in the RSM over the control (p <0.05). Within the framework of integrated forest management, these results represent a great contribution to the construction of scientific knowledge.
