This investigation's objective was to identify and categorize the planktonic algal flora and the trophic state of the Laguna Bajo Macagno (Department Conhelo) with a special emphasis on the classes Cyanophyceae, Chlorophyceae and Bacillariophyceae. Biological and physical-chemical stationery samples were collected between June 2018, and March 2019 in three sampling sites determined Norte, Alteo, and Sur. The samples were obtained by manual drag and were fixed in 4% formalin. Air and water temperature, conductivity, pH, and water transparency were registered in situ. Out of the total number of registered species (107), the Chlorophyceae class was the one with the highest specific age with 63 taxa, followed by Bacillariophyceae (20), Cyanophyceae (14), Euglenophyceae (9) and Chrysophyceae (1). The degree of similarity of the phycological community, throughout the sampling period, varied from 36% to 74%. The results of the applied Nygaard index qualify the lagoon as eutrophic, typical of the Pampean region. The state of saprobity of the lagoon (S = 2.48), established from the bioecology of the organisms, is classified within the ß-mesosaprobic range of moderate contamination water. The Carlson trophic status index (TSI), based on transparency (SD), places the lagoon within the eutrophic category throughout the entire year, except for the spring season where hypereutrophy is reached. TSI values based on the concentration of chlorophyll are classified as oligotrophic throughout the year, except for the summer, where it becomes mesotrophic.
