In the diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis in cattle herds, an indirect method is used that detects cellular immunity by intradermal reaction the purified protein derivative (PPD). One of the disadvantages of the use of PPD in the diagnosis is the appearance of false positive reactors due to the possibility of the existence of antigenic determinants shared by M. bovis and the remaining species of the genus, as well as by other genera specifically within the Actinomycetes. In this work we will try to demonstrate by intramuscular inoculation of non-tuberculous mycobacteria present in the environment, if they can cause a cross-reaction with bovine or / and avian PPD. In addition, the results are compared using an ELISA technique for the determination of IFN-γ, not contemplated in the control and eradication plan for bovine tuberculosis, this last method being an "in vitro" test, has the advantage of not interfering with the immune state of the animal and can be repeated in the same animal without the need to respect the period of desensitization necessary in the intradermal reaction. The results will contribute to endorse or not the diagnosis by PPD and demystify or not the concept of cross-reactivity.
