| es_AR |
dc.description.abstract | Breast cancer in dogs is one of the most common malignancies in the veterinary clinic. (Cotchin, 1954; Brodey, 1983; Gobello and Corrada 2001, Dobson et al, 2002). The treatment of choice is mastectomy with delayed biopsy. (Fergusson, 1985). Several studies indicate that the mortality rate after surgical treatment of malignant breast tumors is high (Wey et al, 1999; Schneider, et al, 1969; Novosat, 2003; Stratmann, et al, 2008). There are several surgical procedures for removal of mammary gland tumors (TGMs), but controversy persists regarding the extent of surgical resection (Mc Ewen and Withrow, 1996). The purpose of this paper is to describe the relationship between the extent of the surgery of mammary tumors in stages I, II or III (Hampe and Misdorp, 1974) and survival of disease-free animals and overall survival. There will be a simple mastectomy of the breast in a population of 10 dogs with TGMs and mastectomy block in another population of 10 dogs with TGMs, with an experimental, prospective, randomized trial. There will be a follow up during 12 months with clinical and radiographic evaluations of quarterly chest. And an evaluation of the disease-free survival (days), local recurrence, regional and disseminated (days) and overall survival (days). We hope to find a positive relationship between the extent of surgical resection of breast tumors of grades I, II or III and the time of disease free survival and overall survival. | en |
