Circe's mirror : duality, irony and parody in Satyricon 124, 2 - 139, 5
The episode of Circe and Polyenus, parody of the conventional love affairs in Greek erotic novels, make evident the rhetorical mechanisms of burlesque inversión, which refer the ambiguity of the mimetic urban world. A duplicity in the relationships, with a reversion of roles and figures, doubtful behavior and a permanent falsification of reality, mark the story through the ironic trope and the parodie intertextuality and condense -in the symbolic efficacy of the mirror- strategies which have apparent existence, magic and seduction as realizations of the fundamental duality which pervades Satyricon and expresses a moral and aesthetic questioning of the represented world and the dominant literature.
