The current research project aims at studying the literary and cultural production of writers from the Americas, in contrast to the irish culture and literature of the twentieth and twenty first centuries, with the purpose of establishing shared behavioral patterns and giving greater visibility to the culture they belong to. It is specified that the above-mentioned writers can be well-known or novel within the literary canon as well as being part of minority groups, or members of some of the various existing ethnic communities. In order to achieve the objectives of this research project it is necessary to analyze literary texts such as short stories, novels, plays, poems, book reviews, texts of literary criticism or literary theory, and others related to various fields of knowledge, such as history, cultural geography, sociology and anthropology, with the purpose of having access to a wider spectrum of the literary arts in the Americas and in Ireland and of their subject matter at present. Moreover, texts of literary criticism and literary theory by irish authors or about irish culture or literature will be translated, with the purpose of spreading, from the academy, the position of the literature/culture in a deeper way, which was for years considered to be on the margins of the british canonical production. In a likewise manner, we will proceed in relation to the other american writers of anglo american and latin american descent. In this sense, the project and its results can be applied not only to the field of literature and culture but also to the fields of contemporary history and geography, history of the diasporic processes between ireland and the americas, sociology and anthropology. During the course of the first year, as a result of the development of the project, the translation of the work Roger Casement, 'El caucho, la amazonía y el mundo atlántico 1884-1916' 1º edición, EDUNLPam (2011), ISBN 978-950-863-165-7 has been published, with a grant from the embassy of Ireland in Argentina. At present, the second edition (revised and expanded) has been finished, and is in the press (ISBN 978-950-863-177-0) Currently works of literary criticism about contemporary american and irish authors and new translations -shaw o crítico- are being carried out, in collaboration with usp, brazil. As part of the promotion and spreading of the current research, the members of the project have requested authorization for the organization of the IV Conference of the Society for Irish latin american studies (silas) and VIII Symposium of irish studies in South America 'the art of movement and transformation: Ireland and the Americas looking forward', multi-/inter-disciplinary activity which will gather specialists from various areas of the social sciences, writers, translators, teachers and graduate and postgraduate students, next august 2013 at the College of Human Sciences, UNLPam in Santa Rosa.
