La Compañía de Jesús en la modernidad clásica : expansión cultural europea y nuevos saberes entre Europa y América (siglos XVI-XVIII)

Abstract

La Sociedad de Jesús fue fundada en el año 1534. El estudio del despliegue de la orden puede servir como un camino para comprender algunos problemas centrales de la modernidad clásica. Consideramos que analizar las fuentes jesuíticas puede ser un camino válido para rastrear cómo el modelo cultural europeo se difundió y cómo a causa de la acomodación, tomó características peculiares en cada lugar específico sin perder por ello su matriz europea. Es en este punto, que el proceso de globalización de la cultura europea de la modernidad clásica puede rastrease muy bien en las fuentes jesuíticas como laboratorio de un proceso más general. Este proyecto privilegiará el archivo jesuítico de paraquaria y las fuentes editadas referidas a la provincia jesuítica del Paraguay. Las líneas de investigación que el proyecto privilegiará son las siguientes: el estudio de los recursos y mecanismos en el establecimiento de reducciones como las formas retóricas y estrategias jesuíticas en el contacto con los otros a convertir. También el proyecto considerará otra línea de investigación referida al análisis de los diálogos y debates que los eruditos y docentes jesuitas establecieron con los nuevos modelos epistemológicos de conocimiento de la modernidad, y focalizará el desarrollo de saberes y ciencia en los espacios misionales: los saberes de la conversión.

The Society of Jesus was founded in 1534. The study of the deployment of the order can serve as a way to understand some central problems of earl modern era. We believe that analyzing jesuit sources can be a valid way to track down how did the european cultural model spread through out the world, and how thanks to the jesuitic 'accommodation', acquired peculiar characteristics in each specific place without losing its european dominant features. It is at this point that the process of globalization of european culture in the early modern era could be easily tracked down in the jesuitic historical sources as a laboratory of a more general process.this project will favor the jesuit file of paraquaria file and the published sources regarding the jesuit province of Paraguay. The research areas that are going to be the center of this project are: the study of the mechanisms used in the establishment of the jesuitic reductions and the rhetorical forms and strategies used by the jesuits in contact with the 'others to be converted'. Also the project will consider another line of research regarding the analysis of the dialogues and the debates that the jesuit scholars and teachers established with new epistemological models of knowledge of the modern era, and will target the development of knowledge and science in missionary spaces: knowledge of conversion.
