Extensive goat farming in western La Pampa is performed on natural pastures, the main resource for the development of families. But at times it can be a source of damage to the pasture, something that need to know to achieve the right balance between the nutritional needs of livestock and maintaining the natural resource. It was hypothesized that goats make up your diet based on the nutritional value of the species that make up the pasture. The aim of the study was to determine the plant species selected for the goats to compose your diet and its relation to nutritional value. The work was carried out in: a) a halófilo scrub (Step Maroma); b) a shrubland of jarilla (Chos Malal). In the four seasons and at each site samples of stool from the rectum of 15 goats were taken, previously identified to be analyzed microscopically and determine the composition of the diet. In addition, vegetation samples were performed in every season and vegetation was sampled to analyze their nutritional value. The results indicate that the selection of the diet of goats responds to a combination of factors, of which wealth is the variable that seems to prevail. A equal abundance, species would be selected for their nutritional value and within this variable protein content to predominate energy. Remarkable is the importance of shrubs and sub-shrubs in Paso Maroma and Poáceas in Chos Malal as dietary components stands. Some species of high nutritional value should be particularly referred to in the development of pasture management plans. The technique of determining diets by microscopic stool examinations goats, must be complemented with another for greater accuracy in the composition thereof.
