Uso de habitat para la tortuga terrestre patagónica (Chelonoidis donosobarrosis) en la provincia de La Pampa

Abstract

La tortuga terrestre patagónica (Chelonoidis donosobarrosis) es una de las cuatro especies de tortugas del desierto que habitan nuestro país. Su estado de conservación es vulnerable según UICN, y esta incluida en el Apéndice II de CITES, estado que es atribuido en gran parte, a las intervenciones que el hombre realiza sobre su hábitat. El escaso conocimiento que se tiene sobre la especie, ha impulsado a evaluar si la presencia de esta tortuga está influenciada por el tercer nivel de selección de hábitat, el cual esta definido por los componentes de la estructura del hábitat (CEH). Se definieron 12 CEH, que se consideraron podían explicar la presencia de tortugas. Cada componente se midió en puntos con presencia (N = 11) y ausencia (N = 11) de tortugas. Solo cinco de estos CEH presentaron diferencias estadísticas significativas (p < 0,05) entre la presencia/ausencia. Se utilizó como herramienta de análisis la regresión logística binaria. Se propusieron 4 modelos de uso de hábitat, y se seleccionó el mejor, por el Criterio de Información de Akaike de Segundo Orden. El modelo mejor clasificado, esta formado por la cobertura del estrato graminosoherbáceo mayor a 15 cm (CobGraHer>15) el cual tuvo un ß = -3,275. Los modelos propuestos, lograron predecir la presencia, en el mejor de los casos con un p (Y = 1) = 0,824, valor que se podría considerar aceptable. Los resultados obtenidos, hacen pensar, que la presencia de tortugas esta en gran parte definida por los componentes de la estructura del hábitat, no obstante, se recomienda definir el uso de hábitat mediante el cuarto nivel de selección, el cual esta representado por los componentes de la estructura del hábitat.

The terrestrial patagónica tortoise (Chelonoidis donosobarrosis) is one of the four species of desert tortoise that inhabit our country. Their conservation state isvulnerable according to UICN, and is included in the Appendix II of the CITES, state that is largely attributed, to the interventions that the man carries out on its habitat. The scarce knowledge that man has on this habitat, has impelled to evaluate if the presence of this tortoise is influenced by the third level of habitat selection, the one which is defined for the components of the structure of the habitat. 12 CEH were defined, which were considered could explain the presence of tortoises. Each component was measured in points with presence (N = 11) and absence (N = 11) of tortoise. Only five out of these CEH presented significant statistical differences (p < 0,05) among the presence/absence. It was used as analysis tool the binary logistical regression. Four models of habitat use were intended, and the best one was selected, for the Akaike's Information Criterio the Second Order. The better classified pattern, is formed by the covering from the biggest graminoso-herbaceous stratum to 15 cm (CobGraHer>1S) which had ß= - 3,275. The proposed models, were able to predict the presence, in the best of cases with a p (Y = 1) = 0,824, value that could by consider acceptable. The obtained results make think that the presence of turtles this largely defined by the components of the structure of the habitat, nevertheless, it is recommended to define the habitat use by means of the fourth selection level, the one which this represented one for the components of the structure of the habitat.
