El 'asesino silencioso' tabaquismo en adolescentes estudiantes en la ciudad de Toay

Abstract

El siguiente estudio de tipo descriptivo, cuantitativo se realizó con la finalidad de ampliar los conocimientos respecto a la situación de tabaquismo de adolescentes estudiantes, entre 12 y 18 años en la ciudad de Toay, La Pampa, Argentina en el año 2008. Para ello se seleccionaron al azar 18 cursos entre todas las escuelas de enseñanza secundaria y se realizaron encuestas anónimas e individuales y autoadministradas. De un total de 632 alumnos, la muestra representativa quedó constituida por 290 adolescentes (52% del total). Las variables analizadas fueron: cantidad de fumadores (59%); cantidad de no fumadores (37%). Mujeres fumadoras (34%); varones fumadores (25%). Edad de inicio, con el mayor porcentaje (23%) en los 14 años. Causa del hábito: curiosidad (35%), problemas (7%), amigos (40%), no contestan (18%). Estado de bienestar cuando fuman: bien (34%), mal (26%), igual (24%) y no contestan (16%). Influencia del grupo de pares: 92% de los fumadores y 73% de los no fumadores. Influencia de familiares que conviven y fuman: de los fumadores (67%) y de los no fumadores (61%). Información sobre los daños del tabaquismo: escasa (78,5%), suficiente (5%), nula (16.5%). Valor otorgado a la salud: poco (4%), mucho (89%), nada (1%) y no contestan (6%). Interés por recibir información: fumadores (73%), no fumadores (84%). Por último interés por recibir ayuda para dejar de fumar: si (34%), no (40%) y no contestan (25%). Con la información obtenida se pretende ser el punto de partida para futuras acciones de prevención y asistencia dirigidas hacia este grupo etáreo vulnerable.

The following study of kind descriptive, quantitative were done with the object to amplify the know ledge of the situation of smokers in teenagers students between 12 to 18 years old in Toay city, Argentina, in 2008. To do this, were chosen at random 18 classrooms in all high schools and were done anonymous and individual polls. For a total of 632 students, the representative sample was done by 290 adolescents (52% of total). The studied variables were: quantity of smokers (59%); quantity of not smokers (37%). Feminine smokers (34%); masculine smokers (25%). Starter year, with the biggest percentage (23%): on the 14 years old. Habit reason: curiosity (35%), problems (7%), friends (40%), do not answer (18%). State of satisfaction when smoking: well (34%), bad (26%), indifferent (24%), and do not answer (16%). Group of friends influence: (92%) of smokers and (73%) of not smokers. Influence of group familiar that live together and smoke: to the smokers (67%) and to the not smokers (61%). Information about the damages of smoke: minimum (78%), enough (5%), null and void (16.5%). Value given to health: slight (4%), much (89%), nothing (1%) and do not answer (6%). Interest to receive information: smokers (73%), not smokers (84%). Finally, interest to receive help to give up of smoke: yes (34%), no (40%), and do not answer (25%). With the obtained information, I want to be the starting-point to future actions of help and prevention, direct to this group of persons so exposed.
