The global demand of food and energy is increasing rapidly, and will continue doing with population growth. The Pampean Semiarid Region has not been immune to the agricultural expansion in recent years, which meant an increase in the cultivated area. Climatically, this region presents water limitations for crops due to mainly the uneven distribution of rainfall. In these conditions, nutrient availability and plant density can condition a low efficiency of use water and economic productivity of the water. On the basis of the foregoing was raised as an objective of work: to assess the effects of fertilization and plant density, on the production of corn in an Entisol of The Pampean Semiarid Region. In a randomized block design using plots of 50m2 with four replications, were established the following treatments: control without fertilization (T), fertilization (F: 80 kg N), low density (bd: 40,000 plants/ha) and high density (ad: 60,000 plants/ha). The results show that density of plants and fertilization conditioned yields significantly, without significant differences in the consumptive uses, thereby affecting efficiency of use water. bdF treatment was the one that showed the highest performing (4960 kg/ha), the largest efficiency of use water (12.2 kg/ha.mm) and economic productivity of the water (12,77 $/ha.mm). On the other hand in the adT treatment were recorded the lowest yields (690 kg/ha), the lower efficiency of use water (3.4 kg/ha.mm) and economic productivity of the water (1,65$/ha.mm). Therefore, it is concluded that an apropiate density of plants and the adjustment of crop nutrition in The Pampean Semiarid Region, would allow significant increases in grain production per millimeter of water available.
