dc.description.abstract | Human activity produces a great variety of wastes that are released to land, air and aquatic environments. These anthropogenic wastes alter the ecosystem affecting not only human health but also the different organisms that inhabit them. Toxicological tests are used to recognize and evaluate the effects of contaminants in biota. In this thesis the development of bioassays with Daphnia magna was performed and it was then applied for the toxicity assessment in different effluents. The CL50 at 48 h D. magna for potassium dichromate, used as a reference toxicant, was 0.203 mg / L, similar to that previously reported. A high percentage of mortality (83,33 and 90%) was observed in two of the sampling points of the Lagoon Don Tomas (Santa Rosa - La Pampa). Indisting presence of potentially toxic compounds in that area. Additionally, the toxicity in an adjacent area of a garage was evaluated, getting as a result a high mortality rate (93.33%). The runoff of rainwater in this case has probably substances used such as oil, grease, solvents, brake fluid, etc. The bioassay with D. magna proved to be a versatile, simple and inexpensive method, suitable for the evaluation of the effluent toxicity. It can be used as preventive or normative analysis and coupled to other types of analysis.
